A cellar is magical place ! For a recording session I had chosen our own, in my block of flats. Walking downstairs, my intention was to record everything, that got into my hands and to catch a true sonic portrait of the place. After doors closed behind me, I noticed coaches, bicycles and some plastic toys on wheels parking there in the darkness. Right next to them, there was iron grillage protecting heater core and down, under my feet, heavy wobbling iron hatch. I recorded everything. Then I backed down to bicycles to catch sounds of spinning pedals, spokes and a carrier. Then there was an old refridgerator standing alone in the corridor, pieces of polystyrene, a traverse rod, plastic wheeled chair… Another interesting stuff was found after unlocking the padlock hanging on nearby door. Old, unused, detuned mandolin hanging on the wall, lots of forgotten things on shelves… I grabbed them, hit them, shuffled them… and of course, recorded them. The result was named simply… Cellar.
